Michael Smith » Welcome Back!

Welcome Back!

First of all, I hope your summer break was exactly what you hoped it would be.  Secondly, my name is Mr. Smith.  Most of you will know that and more about me before you ever find my "webpage" on the Stewarts Creek Middle School website.  Having said that, I'm going to include a bit of info about myself for anyone brave enough to search me up before we've gotten to know each other better.

I graduated high school from Livingston Academy in 2004, and found myself at Tennessee Tech University shortly thereafter.  I studied Psychology, English, and Education extensively.  Not long after graduating college, I began to work at Livingston Academy as an English teacher, and worked exclusively with 9th/10th graders for eight years (and my son, Bronson, was born during this time as well).  I moved to a middle school in Smith county in 2019 as I wanted to work in the lower grades, and loved every second teaching my 7th graders.  Lastly, I worked a year at Macon County High School as the 9th grade English instructor and as the Creative Writing teacher for all grade levels.  If you look around my desk, you will see a lot of the artwork/writings that my students created for me.  I miss and love them dearly.

So what makes me "me"?  My generation has lived in two different cultures:  pre-internet/cell phones and post-internet/cell phones.  I have a love for doing things without technology, but I also sorta love technology too!  I played several sports growing up:  baseball, basketball, bowling...can probably outshoot you in basketball and I've won the State tournament for bowling once upon a time.  Once I stopped playing sports (college days), I transitioned into gaming as I desire competition.  I played World of Warcraft, Call of Duty, Gears of War, etc, etc.  Currently, I'm working my way through Cyberpunk 2077, the Cuphead DLC (pray for my controllers), and Smite.  The last, Smite, I play at a very high level, and when I play ranked I find myself regularly in matches with current and former pro players.  In 2020, I also decided to level up myself through practicing jiu-jitsu and kickboxing.  Currently, I train 4-5 days a week for a couple hours a day.  As you can imagine from reading all the things I do, I don't have time for tv--I honestly can't tell you the last time I sat and watched something on a regular tv channel.  I do watch movies, and being an English teacher, I also love reading, although I've switched to audiobooks due to the amount of driving I've done the last few years.

If you made it here, congrats!  I just wanted to leave you with one last thought:  We are here for you.  If you find yourself needing assistance, do NOT hesitate to ask for help.  I honestly can't wait to meet you all!
