This week students practiced their ability to look at data and research, and then create their own scientific argument based off of the data and research. Student's conducted an investigation and analyzed graphs.
Monday- Students looked at time-lapse videos of glacier's retreating and came up with questions to research based off of their observations.
Tuesday- Students learned about the composition of the atmosphere and hypothesized about what would make the composition of the atmosphere change. Students planned an investigation that would test the affect of cars on the amount of carbon dioxide in the air.
Wednesday- Students conducted the investigation they planned and collected their data.
Thursday- Students made a conclusion from the data they collected on Wednesday. The investigation sheet and the conclusion page were taken as two classwork grades. Students then used what they have learned from their investigation and their research of glacial retreat to create an argument for what they think is causing glacial retreat.
Friday- Students completed a constructed response. Given the scenario that they were a park ranger for the National Park Service at the Mendenhall Glacier in Alaska, they were to create a graph of the data they had "collected" and create an argument for whether or not a glacier was in retreat or not.
