Hello SCMS Band Families,

Band Camp begins Monday! This will be a time for our band students to reconnect and enjoy making music with their friends. It is also an important few weeks as we make up for last year's lost learning opportunities while preparing for our Fall performance season (our first public performance occurs the second week of school!). We have a wonderful group of teachers and volunteers lined up to make this a tremendous time for the 2021-2022 SCMS Band. Here are the camp details:

Dates
July 12-16 AND 19-23

Attendance Expectations
All SCMS Band students are required to attend this summer's camp. Students will be excused only for scheduling conflicts that were indicated on the 2021-2022 online registration form AND approved by the band directors. Non-emergency appointments should not be made during band camp.

Any day that a student must be absent due to sickness or an emergency, an email must be sent to the band directors prior to the absence or as soon as it is reasonably possible. Failure to do this may result in a student being removed from the band program or being place on probationary membership status..

Daily Schedule
Camp will begin promptly at 8:00 AM each morning (please drop off no later than 7:45) and will end at 12:00 PM.

Drop-Off/Pick-Up Location
Students should be dropped off and picked up at the back awning by the gym.

Eighth Grade Leadership Clinic - Cancelled
Due to medical reasons, the clinician scheduled for the first Tuesday afternoon was forced to cancel. Eighth graders will go home, as usual, at 12 PM that day.

Bowling/Pizza Day - Thursday, July 22
On Thursday, July 22, students will have an opportunity to bowl and have pizza at the Smyrna Bowling Center at the conclusion of camp. Bus transportation will provided to/from the bowling center. On that day, students should be picked up at SCMS at 2:30 PM.

Camp Performance/Mandatory Parent Meeting - Friday, July 23 - 6:00 PM
On July 23, camp will end, as usual, at 12:00. Students should return, however, at 5:15 PM to set up for our camp performance and mandatory parent meeting. The performance/meeting will begin at 6:00 PM in the SCMS Gym. All band students MUST be represented by at least one parent at the meeting. It will last approximately one hour.

Camp Attire
Students may dress in comfortable, but modest, summer attire. All rehearsal takes place indoors.

A new band t-shirt will be provided for the final performance. Students may wear their shirt with neutral color shorts or pants. Jeans are also acceptable.

What to Bring

  • Instrument (percussionists need sticks and mallets only)
  • Essential Elements Band Book
  • Pencil

Snacks (and food allergies)
The SCM Music Boosters will provide snacks (chips, crackers, ice pops, water) during a short break around 10:00 each day. Students may bring their own snacks if desired. If your child has any food allergies, please email the directors prior to camp.

Cost
The cost to operate and staff this summer's camp is around $5000. We are very fortunate to be able to cover this with money raised during last year's band fundraiser (thank you!). We are, however, asking families to contribute $12 each for the bowling field trip and lunch. The SCM Music Boosters will email you an invoice for that amount so you can pay online. Once that invoice is received, please pay as soon as possible.

Water Donation
For our upcoming football game performances, we are asking each band family donate one case of bottled water. You may bring your family's donated case of water to the parent meeting or have your child bring it in during any of our camp days.

If you have any questions, please email us. We look forward to seeing everyone on Monday!

Thank you for staying informed, trusting the process, and being involved.
