Grading Policy

Welcome to 6A Math! Please review this informational page for my class.

Notifications

I will send emails about assignments, due dates, test dates, and other reminders through email.  This is the best way to stay informed with what is happening in class. Please make sure you check your email often or let me know if I ever need to update your email address.

Grading

This is a school wide grading policy, not just one for my class. All grades are weighted with homework counting 10%, classwork 40% and tests 50% of your grade. It is important to turn in all assignments on time and to check grades regularly in Skyward to keep up with your average and to see if you have missing work. Check grades in Skyward weekly! If you lose your login or can’t login then contact the front office. No extra credit will be given and 5 points will be deducted for late work.

Homework (10% of grade)

Bell work will be scored in the homework category. This will consist of 2 review problems per day (Monday-Thursday). These will be submitted on Friday and will be graded for accuracy. Students will be given some time in class to start them, but will need to complete them for homework. The bell work can be found on my webpage in a folder titled “Bell Work”. They can take them home to get help, but must turn them in on Friday.

*If your child is absent then they must make up bell work from the day/days they were out.

Homework cannot be redone for a higher grade.

Classwork (40% of grade)

The classwork grade will consist of a completion grade. I give 2 points per day for completing our practice work. This grade will be posted weekly out of 10 total points. A 10/10 would be equivalent to a 100%.

In-Person learners: Earn this grade in class by actively working through their guided and independent practice. If they are stuck then they ask for help or use a strategy to work through the problems. These are not graded for accuracy because when we practice skills I expect mistakes. I am simply asking they try their best and persevere each day.

Distance Learners: Earn this grade by completing their to do list in Kiddom and submitting a picture to me daily in Kiddom of their guided and independent practice. These are not graded for accuracy because when we practice skills I expect mistakes. I am simply asking they try their best, persevere, and submit all work to me daily.

*Classwork cannot be redone for a higher grade.

Assessments/Tests (50% of grade)

Assessments are 50% of your grade. However, you don’t have to be a good test taker to pass math. You need to study, complete study guides, and do test corrections for any summative tests to be successful!

Before each test you will receive a study guide with problems to practice that are very similar to what you will see on the test. If you don’t understand these practice problems then it is your responsibility to ask for help at home or school prior to the day of the test! YOU will NOT be allowed to retake the test to improve your grade without turning in a completed study guide prior to taking the test! To be successful, you must prepare!

You will be given the opportunity to score a higher grade through test corrections, regardless of your original score, if you completed your study guide. Test corrections will be sent home as homework. You will earn half of the points back for your test corrections by showing work and having the correct answer so your grade can only improve by completing this assignment!

Calculators

Never before have I had this conversation, but welcome to 2020. Typically, we don’t use calculators for anything the first nine weeks because we work on fluency skills. With that being said, I am trying to be fair to both my in person and distance learners. To be consistent and fair to all my students, I need all work shown and done without a calculator whether in class or at home. Students may then CHECK their answers with a calculator. If they missed it then they are allowed to erase their work and re-complete the problem without the use of a calculator before turning it in to me to grade. They cannot simply change the answer to get the credit. They have to know how to do the skill correctly.
