COURSE DESCRIPTION: 

This 9-week course is designed to help students understand the basic operations and concepts of technology, with specific emphasis on basic computer/operating system navigation and usage, computer/technology related vocabulary, proper keyboarding techniques, basic usage of the Microsoft Office Suite software, and basic Internet usage and safety. 

 

COURSE LEARNING TARGETS:

Basic computer and technology vocabulary and usage. 

  • Navigation through the Windows operating system environment. 
  • Creating and working with files, folders and icons, and saving and retrieving documents. 
  • Basic keyboarding and keypad skills by using an online typing program. 
  • Microsoft Office Suite (focus on OneDrive, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint). 
  • Basic Internet usage skills, focusing on proper use of social media, search engines, and Internet safety. 
 
GRADING:
Schoolwide policy is that 60% of the student's grade will be classwork, homework, and other daily assignments with the remaining 40% be assessment grades. Assessments in this class include timed typing tests, a PowerPoint presentation, an email etiquette test, posture checks, and others. Daily work grades include the completion of modules at (www.typing.com) (for keyboarding) and other daily assignments used to practice skills with Microsoft Office programs and proper email usage.
